Trem bridge screw disaster

So, fitting a 6 screw strat bridge, holes drilled appropriately. First four screws went in no prob at all. Fifth, the A string, snapped off as I was screwing it in. 

Goddammit.

I reckon a missing screw will give it ....... character.

Heat the broken screw with a soldering iron, it will char the surrounding wood and allow you to get the old screw out

Does the expanding screw give it some space? Problem is the screw is buried about 5mm below the surface of the wood, it snapped where the thread starts

Annoyingly I sheared off a screw on my Chapman stick some time ago. When I can be bothered, I'm going to dig it out, drill a nice neat hole, turn a dowel in the lathe (to get the grain the right way) with the same wood, glue and tap in, sand off. I did the same thing before with a guitar and it turned out well, it was pre-finish so didn't show at all by the end.
