But ultimately: Billie Jean is the greatest pop song ever. It has hooks, awesome playing, perfect vocal performance and still sounds fresh.

I have changed my mind it's not The Jacksons .

    It's The Wombles - Remember Your A Womble , they throw everything into this , great energy , almost glam - well it was the 70's .Could anybody  listen to this without singing along ?

Neil says he wrote Don't Dream in 6 minutes. I can't even manage a wank in 6 mins these days, let alone a full on dream. (unless I've some pics of my effects rig by the bed.)

I'm not in any way a fan of country, but this song is somehow so atmospheric, conjures up such images that I think it's one of the greatest.

Pop song? Hanson's MMMBop, and probably S-Club 7's 'Don't Stop Moving'.

I'd actually argue Get Lucky isn't a great song.  It's a good hook with spectacular production which makes for a good record, but you play it on an acoustic guitar and see how fast everyone gets bored..

for me, what makes it tick with me, is the bass and the drum line, they go beyond a simply aural thing, it's visceral. I've seen some great instrumental versions of it, using the same bass and drum line, I guess without that it won't work.
