Might do an amp shootout. I've got a Laney VH100R, an EVH 5150III-50watt, and my Diezel D-Moll. Lets pretend I can be arsed to do this... what kind of things would you wanna see and hear from each amp??

All through the same cab with decent miking, and just play some clean chords, then some distorted chords, then a couple of lead lines, maybe some palm muting if that's your bag. Short samples, back to back for each amp so you can properly compare the difference. Try to capture their EQ and dynamic response. Don't try to make them sound the same, just find good settings that play to each amps strengths.

Record with the mids on full, then put it up on youtube using a picture of amp settings with the mids on zero and wait for the "moar midz!" crew to arrive and tell you you're doing it wrong.

All of that ^^, with no effects (maybe a tiny bit of reverb to give it some air). Focus on rhythm sounds with a bit of lead stuff, on the basis that 80% of every song is rhythm playing...

I would say the opposite… it will tell us much more than three different demos done by different people with no idea of their tone preferences, what cab they're using or how they mic'ed it. (Which is what online demos are like in most cases.)

Get them to go Twang. All amps (including yours) do Clang and Fizz, but Twang is more elusive.

Last time I screwed something, I wired the ground to output and the hot to ground on the jack.

Felt like a right twat.
