So much to discuss.... But I think the best part was luke on Crait (or not), and all the hints he wasn't there.... How'd he get in? Why is he looking younger? Why is he not making footprints? Why is he holding his old lightsaber?
I admit, I shed a tear when he became one with the force... That music, the twin suns.... Awesome.
However.... Please get rid of stuff like Mary Poppins Leia, and the stuff like the casino and Luke getting the milk was pointless. And as for Phasma.... What's the point of her? She's useless.
I think they could have done the Finn/ Rose section better but it was pretty good as is.
Luke doing the shizz near the end and then fading away was brilliant, and the Yoda section was spot on.
I especially liked the way that they portrayed Kylo (Ben) Ren as a prick again. Adam Driver's a very cool dude, but he plays an ass very well.
Will be seeing it again.
The "Leia flying" part was a strange addition. The milking and fishing montage was complete bobbins. Hamill's limitations as an actor were sadly there to see with him having so much dialogue imo.
As I mentioned in the other thread there's a lot to take in and I'd like to see it again.
And again, Phasma - why?
Have to say though, the hyperspace kamikaze was amazing. Stunningly put together!
I thought Adam Driver was the highlight. Absolutely stole every scene for me. It probably helps that I haven't seen Girls, which is making a lot of people struggle to separate Ren from his character in that.
What I do find amusing is all the fanboys on Reddit wailing about unanswered questions as if the original trilogy was this perfect, unassailable thing with nothing left open (who is boba fett? is he dead? who is/was the emperor? why did the humans trust the ewoks when just the night before they were going to get cooked and eaten by them? etc etc)
Kylo Ren really came into his own in this film. Driver played him splendidly growing in scale to match the presence of Vader.
The casino bit just to set up the force sensitive kid at the end was a massive waste of time that spoiled the tone/pace of the film imo.
Loved thr interaction between Rey and Kylo. Genuinely didn’t know which way they’d go. Great fight scene without Snoke’s guards. The whole “join me and we’ll rule together” felt a little tired though. Found it odd that Kylo then just let her fuck off back to her mates. Felt a bit clumsy that bit.
I really liked Luke’s rant about the Jedi and would’ve preferred to explore that and the force in general. He suggested there’s more to it than light and dark but it didn’t really go any deeper than that.
Space Leia sucked sweaty balls.
Snoke’s gold pyjamas?!
Crait (sp?) was cool, the red surface under the salt looking like spilled blood was nicely done.
Loved Luke tossing the lightsaber over his shoulder.
Poe’s recklessness getting people killed made me like his character more than the seemingly perfect “quarterback” pilot in TFA.
Is it wrong that I found Laura Dern really hot?
Definitely want to watch it again but I’d love an edit without the Canto Bight side story.
I like the last two, but was unfortunately quite disappointed in this one.
For about 20 minutes.
Then it picked up, and was pretty good. Excellent space fighting scenes, some good stories for characters like Finn, Poe, etc The story between Rey and Kolo was great, as was the way he almost turned to the good, but doubled-down as a bad guy again. And Yoda. And the Falcon. And crashing the cruiser at light-speed. The basic story was always going to be obvious, but there were still plenty of surprises in *how* we got there.
I heard about the humour, and was a little concerned that it would be over the top. For a few scenes, it felt like it, but after walking out of the longest Star Wars film done so far, I felt pretty damn satisfied.
I'm with you there.
The kamikaze at light speed was absolutely incredible cinema.
