Do you know that in just 4 years from now, it will be FORTY YEARS since the Falklands war?

Forty!!  WTF!?

It only seems like ten years ago or something to me, not half a lifetime.

Also, just four human lifetimes ago, the country was just recovering from the bubonic plague and the great fire of London had just started. (Assuming an average lifespan of 75 years).

Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on mine.

It seems a very long time ago to me - I was at Uni, wearing flares, hadn't had kids, couldn't drive, CDs weren't out yet, computers were 8-bit.

One thing which did make me think about time was a few years back when one of my kids said "Daddy - you were born 15 years after WW II".

    I’m 50.

Not only was I born only 22 years after the end of WWII - the equivalent of 1995 to today - I was born closer to the end of the *First* World War than to now.

Can you remember when pubs on a Friday night were packed with workers who'd just finished for the week, had a fog of fag-smoke filling them, and the landlord would advise any drunk regulars to drive home slowly?

Yeah, I know.  Still... burying your head in the sand isn’t the better option. Or is it ?

Safer than sticking your head above the battlements, surely? ;)

    I'll join in.

The formation of the Stone Roses was closer to the formation of the Rolling Stones than to today.

I could play "Stairway To Heaven" when I was 12. Jimmy Page didn't actually write it until he was 22. I think that says quite a lot.

On the same theme, Nevermind is now older than Sergeant Pepper was when Nevermind was made.

I'm closer to the grave than the cradle. Literally, I was born in Basingstoke, so that's 150 odd miles away, but live right next door to the churchyard.

TBH, it’s a very recent thing for me. I look at my 8 1/2 year old daughter and wonder where time went.

And it’s the little things that make you think “okay... well when did that happen?” Yesterday, for example she had her hair in a different style which instantly made her look 11/12. Even our son of 5... I was treating him like a baby over the Lego he got and while i was looking he raced ahead and did the next few parts himself. A few months ago he couldn’t have done that.

Children are definitely the most amazing gauge of time in my life, regardless of the events of the past.

I like to ponder the passage of time through confectionary.

    I am 50.

Marathon changed it's name to Snickers in 1990, over half my lifetime ago.
