St Tory of Bliar

What's Hot
On R4 this morning. Amazing that the BBC should give him the oxygen of publicity. At least they had the common sense to have Lord Lamont on a bit later to debunk him. Natch, I wouldn't believe everything Lamont says either, but at least he's not of the ilk of whom one thinks "Whatever he says, do the opposite".

    From the BBC News:

"Tony Blair has attacked Labour's "timidity" on Brexit, saying it would deliver a departure from the EU designed by the "Tory right".

He urged the party he once led to "nail" the "myths" of the Brexit campaign - and fight for the rights of voters to "think again" about leaving.

He told the BBC it was not "undemocratic" to call for a vote on the terms of an exit deal.

Labour has backed Brexit and ruled out a second referendum if it wins power."

I wish he would just go away and shut up...

    Dear Tony,

    Fuck off.

    Then fuck off some more.

    And then some more.

Supposedly he's trying to become Trump's envoy to the Middle East now. Can he possibly not have done enough damage there yet?

Lamont is at least as bad though. If both of them say the opposite, chances are both of them are still wrong somehow.

I listened to the full 17 minutes worth. John Humphreys eviscerated him on air - Blair didn't like being referred to as a member of the London metropolitan elite. He's an odious pip squeak who should be in jail for war crimes.

The Queen should use her powers to ensure he isn't knighted like Nick Cunt or made a Lord. It's funny to see that since Thatcher died Blair is the new bête noire of the left. I'm sure they'll have a party when he dies. We should have the day off to celebrate.

@Ravenous with hindsight, yes I agree that was right. At the time I dismissed it as Tory scaremongering propaganda, and I'm sure it was just that. They did turn out to be right about it though. Probably by accident rather than judgement. The bastards deserved to lose anyway ...

Yeah at the time that poster came out I was outraged (I'm mostly lefty) but now, it's one of those victories for prescience.

It's odd how he went from being popular and entertaining pop stars in Number 10, to being (I guess) Labour's least popular leader.

I'd still put him above Foot and possibly Kinnock - he did an enormous amount of harm, but also quite a lot of good first - neither of those two did anything useful at all really. Maybe even above Brown.

I saw that and thought at the time how 'democratic' it was that he joined the USA against Iraq based on a concocted story of Weapons of Mass Destruction - against the wish of many inc many of his own party

Tony you've had your go - you decided to sod off and no longer stay as an MP - So shut up and go forth and multiply

    @Ravenous with hindsight
Hindsight is all you generally get with politicians. Besides the Iraq war Blair has failed to explain how he went from having £5 million in the bank to over £70 million. and how his links to Haliburton and the UAE contributed to his fortune (earning money out of the misfortune of others in Iraq). You then have Blair's open door on EU migration when the rest of the EU had controls, giving away a chunk of our EU rebate for changes to the CAP that never happened as France blocked them, saddling the NHS with PFI costs and cosying up to the City of London whilst removing the BoE's regulatory powers that might have reduced the banking crisis.

the additional tax revenue from banks raking in big profits, yet going out of control, suited Tony + Gordon, as such I think they 'conveniently' choose to ignore what was going on - Tony can always say it didn't go wrong on his watch (conveniently)

I'd probably question how he got the £5 million as well on a PM wage (less than £200 K and less back then)

I think the £5 million was mostly from property deals (champagne socialist) but a few years later this shot up to £70 million. Something doesn't add up.

True. He charged $250,000 for a 90 minute speech, however the bottom dropped out of this market with the furore around the Iraq war and the weapons of mass destruction dossier. He sat on the board of JP Morgan and worked for a Korean energy company as well as being Middle East Peace Envoy for the UN. It's his undisclosed links to the likes of Haliburton that interest people. He's a slippery individual. A US company values Blair's personal fortune at $90 million plus $40 million property portfolio.

It's more amusing to calculate Blair's fortune in Paveway bombs. At £22,000 per bomb...

I wouldn't mind him being rich if he'd earned it honestly, doing something that benefits the world.

But he seems to have gained most of his money from exploiting a problem he had a very large part in creating, and which destroyed the lives of millions of people.

I wonder what number you get if you calculate his wealth in the number of dead, displaced and traumatised people in the Middle East and elsewhere who have suffered as a result of his actions in supporting Bush's war...
