Peanuts in my shoe !

So I put my shoes on just before leaving yesterday, walked across the room, and, hmmm, that's a bit uncomfortable...
Lumpy, bumpy feeling.
Took one shoe off, and that's why ~ five peanuts languishing inside !

Uncooked stylee, still covered in that thin red membrane, so they must be meant for the birds.  No birds in here.  No peanuts in the bird feeder outside either.  (We normally put bread out in the winter to help our feathered friends through the tough times, but no peanuts right now.)

So a bit of a mystery unfurls !

Well, she does squirrel away the odd bit of clothing in the back of a wardrobe, or the back of a draw.  Only to announce in my company "look what I just found" she says rummaging, "I wondered where that had gone".

Seems only decent to return the compliment with the odd guitar (or two)    O:-)

I've heard of diamonds in the soles of their shoes, but never peanuts. I guess austerity hits everyone sooner or later.

I found a squirrel in my bedroom just a week before Xmas

seriously, in our previous house, we had a mice problem. we put down the little trays of blue poison granules that seemed to work for a bit, then a few days later i put my boots on and they were liberally filled with these granules. we reckon the mice were taking them and storing them in there for later.

Our lead guitarist kept our PA speakers in his garage for a while.  We realised that they started rattling disconcertingly so I took them apart, thinking the cones were shot or something.

It was dog biscuits....taken in by mice.  And the dog biscuits weren't even kept in the garage...or anywhere near it.

So I reckon you've got mice

I've spent time in the desert.  You always tap your boots out in the morning.  Better than wrapping your toes around an angry scorpion !

In various places in the world it pays to do the same in case spiders or snakes have taken up residence overnight.

Thankfully I have never yet been attacked by a peanut !    :-O

Spooky and amazing in equal measure.  Although I am really not keen on the use of poisons, not a nice way to end your stint on planet earth, whatever species you belong to IMHO.

Conspiracy theory; Douglas Adams reckoned that the mice secretly ran the planet...  (deep thought, 42, life the universe and everything, etc)

Had you considered the possibility that they were attempting to return the compliment and bump you off instead ?   8-X

So, loving a mystery, and a bit of sleuthing (our old R.E. teacher kept wonderfully effective order in class by delivering spellbinding orations of Sherlock Holmes), I put the peanuts on one side for the day.  Yesterday evening I returned them back to my shoe, covered by a sock as it had been the night before.

Maybe our mystery house guest(s) would be gracious enough to bring me enough to make a peanut butter sandwich?  I do love peanut butter, so that might worm their way into my heart and let them stay.

Then it was just a matter of waiting for the reveal...   :-SS
