  • Some new music being released in this coming fortnight that I am excited about -

Hollie Cook - Vessel of Love (superbly produced reggae and tropical pop featuring incredible musicians - vintage style and gear, warm and colourful production)
MGMT - Little Dark Age (rumoured to be a return to Oracula spectacular form - west coast psych guitar pop)
Hookworms - Microshift (Leeds DIY garage/drone punk's third album)

I had a notification on something or other about the Hollie Cook one, shame she isn’t better known. Couple of lovely live sets on YouTube,I don’t think she has a regular band as such but seems to find some very good musicians.
In a vaguely similar vein Zara McFarlane does a sophisticated mix of jazz and reggae.

Not bought a 2018 album yet. From the past few months try Matthew Ryan's album for a bit of Americana, Coulter Wall's eponymous 2nd album for some Appalachian blues, and if you can see past #meetoo try a few listens of the Brand New album from last year, Science Fiction.

Yep - her new album came out yesterday. There are some brilliant sets on youtube - that show the rotating cast of backing musicians she's had - the latest bunch are pretty incredible and of course Prince Fatty produces.

Again props to you @EricTheWeary for putting me onto Prince Fatty and his cohorts

Had this bookmarked and finally found it https://www.albumoftheyear.org/

https://www.albumoftheyear.org/genre/70-americana/2017/.  That link should be a list of "The best Americana albums of 2017-from all publications" if there are certain publications (NME/The Pitchfork/The Guardian etc.) whose opinion you trust you can click them on the right hand side & it will show only their scores.

Justin Townes Earle - Kids in the street (rootsy)
    Cheers @Winny_Pooh

Listened to half of the album this evening, will finish it off tomorrow.  Right up my alley, Track No.2 is my favourite so far.

*Edit: Finally finished it and while I think the first half of the album is slightly stronger than the second half, it's a solid album that I'll definitely be listening to more. Will also check out the rest of his discography.

Hard to categorise the first of these but both may suit an Americana or Folk-rock taste:

The Barr Brothers ‘Queen of the breakers’
    https://youtu.be/-pceEBu_ooI
    Hiss Golden Messenger ‘Hallelujah anyhow’

-don't understand the love for these guys myself. Saw them a couple of years ago and it was pretty much the definition of by the numbers indie rock.

    Maybe they've got better... :-)
