Personally I wish the BBC had given Saxondale more of a chance. IMHO Tommy Saxondale was a much more interesting animal than Partridge (who is really several different people if you look at the history of the character).

But I suppose it's like being Michael Palin, despite all the stuff he's done since Python people still want to see the Fish Slapping sketch and the Lumberjack song..

I'm non-plussed about his humour but an article in the paper yesterday about Coogan and the show.......Coogan was quoted on a number of occasions describing his left wing views thus"sometimes I am very left wing ,sometimes moderately left wing but never any further to the centre than that "
.........I assume that is when he is behind the wheel of one of his treasured Ferraris busy polluting the planet with needless additional carbon and petrol greed
.......plus 1 for Ferraris.......minus one for hypocritical armchair socialist luvvie

Rather confused here - are you saying that people who politically align as left-wing are not allowed to drive cars?

Are you sure you're talking about left-wing people and not the Amish? There is a difference, I think it's to do with mustaches.

The beauty of Partridge is that the character ages and his career changes, so each new project is fresh rather than being a sitcom that has went on too long with characters who have ran out of steam. Red Dwarf?
Mid Morning Matters was very good and I see the 'One Show' format being just about the perfect scenario for Alan.

Moustaches ? Ken Livingstone always had a moustache .
Amish are very cool people who know the meaning of horsepower
Left Wing people are allowed to drive whatever car they like but when they preach their Politics it isn't usually from the cockpit of a £400.000 Ferrari .
Lord Stansgate ( aka Anthony Wedgewood Benn ) was a proper Socialist .Quite a hero of mine; not for his politics but for his intelligence and Statesmanship and the fact that despite being born an Aristocrat he renounced his title and espoused his cause from the heart rather than the trendy perspective that kept him on the OK list at the BBC.

Basically, if Steve Coogan has gotten even more old, bitter and twisted then his alter ego will be too...

    I thought you were joking....
It now seems that you are not.

Champagne Socialist is a compliment. We all make important Life Choices and people who have wealth are no different.
Benn's son (Hilary Benn) is a fairly wealthy man.
But he chose to join the Labour Party.

He did not choose to join the Tory Party......and to then become a Tory donor......and to then set up a company providing PrIvate Healthcare Services to the NHS.....
He did not make those choices.....because......he is a not a Selfish Greedy Scumbag.

    :)
