NGD Gibson SG standard 2018

I may just have been lucky but it's flawless and sounds awesome.  Oiled fretboard changed strings lubed nut and bridge adjusted truss rod bridge height and set intonation and it plays like butter.  Superb.   Even unplugged its really very resonant.   The neck gives a very pleasing "knock" indicating a good grain (ok i made that fact up).  I am now officially Angus Young.

Neck shape is very similar to my charvel.  Just right.

This is the 2nd time ive owned one and i didnt like the previous one from 2012 but this i think is a keeper.

1st gig with it Friday.

I don't get why Gibson now makes their SG Standards with:

    1. cheap looking white binding
    2. no poker chip on the pickup selector switch
    3. black tophats rather than silver
    4. grotesque giant kidney tuners

Guess it's all personal opinion in the end.   The binding looks very high quality and well finished.  The tuners are quite large but are very fine and reassuringly responsive. The silver knobs look a bit tacky i prefer the black ones.  It comes with a poker chip in the case i just haven't fitted it.

Nice SG!  I didn't know they put a poker chip in the case. Best place for it, it's just as functional in there. :)

Why is white cheaper than pinkish yellowish binding? I'd rather have white binding on my SG's that came with the pinkish yellow binding Gibson had recently been using - especially the white SG!

I guess having no poker chip saves taking off the cheap bit of badly printed plastic that tells you which way is rhythm and which is treble, which I've never seen the point of.

Gibson have used a wide variety of knobs on SGs - at least they're easy to change if you don't like 'em. Unlike binding, nibs, or cherry finishes, which you tend to get stuck with.

Be thankful they're not G-Force tuners???

Poor form knocking a mans NGD.

Go to the back of the room.. now.

HNGD @fastonebaz . SG’s are awesome, there’s been a lot of talk about them recently again and tbh my GAS levels are peaking. Good score :)

The binding is supposed to be white, dammit!

I hate the prosthetic limb coloured binding on my LP. I get that it's supposed to look aged, but not 'Aged Barbie'.

The same goes for ridiculous mint green plastics on Strats, even extending the the back plate, which wouldn't have aged like that in a million years.

    Happy NGD, it looks great!

That is very nice - congrats!

The SG is the coolest looking design of them all.

I'd take white binding over the pinkish stuff any day.

Poker chips - never quite understood the need for those.

    Small pickguard - winning.

More interesting to hear everyone's opinions on new guitars rather than just reading 15 comments saying 'Nice guitar mate'

Then perhaps you could start a different thread to discuss some of your likes and dislikes? New buyers start threads to show off their new pride and joy, not to have someone run through a number of reasons as to why they don’t like it without actually saying congrats on taking the plunge.

    Again, poor form.

If people want their head patting and being told what clever little boys they are for buying a nice guitar they can go get that from their mothers. I'm sure the OP has thick enough skin to handle someone preferring a different colour binding to what is on his guitar.

Actually, maybe you're right, it's probably worth reading two dozen 'nice guitar mate, well done you brave man' comments to avoid excruciating passive aggressive comments like "poor form." from nerds on the internet

@humbucko ;There's a time and a place for expressing your dislike of certain guitars, and it ISN'T when a guy is proudly showing off his new purchase.

I haven't the foggiest idea whether the OP gives a shit about anyone else's opinion or not, but neither have you, so don't be a dick.
