Which masking tape do you use?

When masking off the fret board and pickups what do you use?

I saw a tip where the guy uses post it notes as "it leaves no gunk". It works but if using numerous stages of cleaning frets the notes slip off. I noticed there is some low tack Frog tape for masking that should do the trick I think?

What do you use to mask up?

Search for 'low tack' masking tape.
Especially on maple fingerboards.

Never used that but it is probably fine.

Main thing is to test it before using it on something spendy.
That goes for absolutely every other thing you do with regards to repairs .

I use 3M blue paper tape 1". If its on something delicate a quick waft from heat gun or hair dryer softens it easily.
I put lengths on a plastic board and slice with a scalpel into thinner strips, also de-tacks it a little. There's also the ancient trick of giving it a quick dab on your jeans. Never bother with that though.

Generic blue tape is ok if you stick a strip on your clothes a couple of times to de-tack it even further.

I use the blue stuff from B and Q, never had an issue.....

The 3m blue tape is a lot better for paint work than the generic brands.  The generic stuff is fine for fretwork 

I picked up some red stuff from wilkos  the other week that gives really sharp lines with no bleed and is very low tack. Great for paint, not tried it for fretwork yet

+1 on the 3M blue, I like it a lot for masking up for paint and I agree, generic stuff for fretwork although I do find myself doubling up with really cheap stuff.

this is the stuff i got from wilkos the other day - it really does give sharp paint lines.  its translucent too, which helps with some jobs
