Huge Black Crowes fan and aside from Magpie Salute and the offshoot bands of various crowes members (CRB, Marc Ford, North Mississippi Allstars etc)  I was looking for some new bands to get excited about that have that same combination of soul and swagger with that southern rock edge.

Find Blackberry Smoke a bit cheesy.

Steepwater Band feel like the natural successors even if there's as much Neil Young in their pot as the rest and maybe not the soul edge the BC had, and maybe they are a touch more polished.

Who else is out there?

Ooh nice one. Never heard of any of those. Will check out and report back.

Based on 20secs of each artist...

Endless Boogie right up my street
Field Report sounds wet as hell. Spoon sounds a bit polished pop like later KOL.
    Savoy Brown sounds amazing.

    Many thanks.

The Record Company. Fabulous band. Grammy nominated State-side but pretty much unknown over here...

Interesting! Some of Songs:Ohia more up tempo stuff you might really enjoy. Try these tracks; Farwell Transmission or John Henry Split My Heart.

To find out exactly how wrong you  ;) are about Spoon try Rhythm and Soul -

Right. Once again thanks peeps. Even if I hate some of the music I really enjoyed checking everyone out.

Also a fair few artists I liked but nothing really in any of those recommendations that sounds vaguely crowesy, with the possible exception that you could imagine Chris Robinson singing a couple of the Temperance Movement tracks. Annoyingly I already knew them!

Record Company sounds good. As does Endless Boogie, a band with as bad a name as Vintage Trouble.

Burning Tree is a fascinating piece of history, hearing Marc Ford go from Hendrix impersonator to the melodic soulful lead guitarist he became just a few years later. Not listened to it before. Thanks.

Lots of the other bands sound like a countrified Nickelback. Just cheese.

Ohia sounds good. That Spoon track posted above is bland as hell, but nice they got Ian McShane to drum for them.

Oooh like that. Never heard of them. Again, not crowesy, but nice and rootsy with a little swagger.
