Please humour me with what is probably a stupid question. I am looking to buy a speaker cable and have been looking on designacable. What is the difference between a 2x1.5mm cable and a 2x2.5mm cable? And is it more appropriate I buy one over the other?

im looking to connect a 50w 'plexi' style head to a 8ohm 2x12 60w cab

It's the size of the conductors - either 1.5mm2 or 2.5mm2. Both are bigger than you need for that power level.

1.5mm2 is plenty and will be easier for the maker to get into the Neutrik plugs you're going to specify :).
