Having dealt with RS for more years than I care to remember, I never realised they stocked valves! they are branded as their RS Pro range but are Chinese and they offer most common guitar valves at reasonable prices. As you would imagine the datasheets are excellent including characteristic curves. I have no idea what they sound like but have ordered a few to try. The 12AX7s will be particularly useful as cathode followers, the heater with respect to cathode is 180 volts, very useful.

Will be very interested to know what you make of these as RS are just down the road and I have a few friends who work for them, it could be a quick supply of valves when needed.

If they’re Chinese they will be Shuguangs presumably. I must admit I didn’t know they were still doing them either, I last bought valves from them in the 90s I think.

I still know them as RadioSpares. Probably shows my age ...
"Working" software has only unobserved bugs. (Parroty Error: Pieces of Nine! Pieces of Nine!)
Seriously: If you value it, take/fetch it yourself

The matching of the EL34s is, ahem, questionable.

The EL34s are the corrected version of the Shuguang EL34B and is a good valve.

The 12AX7s are OK, but I would be wary of the other offerings.

Totally agree jpf, was just surprised they have started re-stocking valves after all these years, and Shuguang are not bad valves though their QA is a bit questionable, just thought it was worth a mention in case anyone needs a valve in an emergency RS do a great overnight service.

RS free delivery sometimes makes me feel guilty. Been a few times I have been disorganised and made several tiny purchases on consecutive days - all delivered next day for free - reckon the postage must have cost more than the items.

Mind you I've waited so that I can combine several items in one RS order and them they arrive in 3 separate packages....

Ha ... I read RS Spares, and immediately thought of the esteemed RS range of performance Fords. Then I read valves, and my mind went straight to the Mk 1 Escorts, the venerable cross flow engines that powered the cars to many a rally championship, cam followers, flared arches, but then stumbled at mention of 12 AX7s, and then my mind went haywire as it connected AX with Citroën and finally blew a fuse with mention of 180 which led to hairpin turns, spinning doughnuts.....

Tell me, am I on the right forum?

I felt really bad when I rebuilt my Marshall earlier this year. I needed a single cap that cost next to nothing and it arrived by courier next day for free. They must have lost a fortune.

Bit moot? Guy in BangyBang studios Miami says he has a stock of FIVE MILLION NOS audio valves and is soon going to put them on the market!

    Sound on Sound June '18.
