Delay recommendations please

I'm after a delay that allows for presets so I can have a few different settings for gigs.

Preferably it will have a display so I can see which patch I'm on. It doesn't need to do anything other than delay.
Tap tempo is handy but not a deal breaker.
Basically, my current set includes another brick in the wall, shut up and dance, let's dance and a couple of others with famous delay sounds.

Budget up to £150 I suppose . Cheaper would be better.

Used tc X4 , no patch display. *

Vox Delaylab - currently £149 at Andertons, lot of delay for that money.

GFI Clockwork Delay V2 - also currently £149 at Andertons,  down quite a bit as V3 is out. No patch display.*

    Used Mooer Ocean Machine

    * unless you count an LED.

I have the GFI and you can tell which preset it is on based on the four leds (one for each preset). It is a brilliant delay, has tap tempo  and is tiny.

Used Boss DD20 - Best delay for live use ever! I owned a Timefactor, Timeline and various other, the DD20 stayed on my board ever since :)

EHX Memory Man w/ Hazarai - LEDs tell you what patch it is on, and it is also bat shit crazy. I'm thinking about getting another one just for the hell of it (well under £100 s/h).

  • Heres a thread I started not so long ago with pretty much the same request.

I went for a TC Nova Delay, and Id love to tell you its amazing, but its not really. Its just OK. You cant switch presets with your foot, and I still find setting the presets a bit of a bollox. Modulation is poor IMHO. I have a TC Flashback, which doesn't have presets/displays and its infinitely better on a number of fronts. I may try a DD20 as youll see there was no shortage of people recommending these, and I probably should have went fro one of those, but the red LEDs were calling!!  Currently trying to avoid a Free The Tone Flight Time, but its got even better LED's right?!

PS: When I sell my Nova Delay on here, I reserve the right to say the complete opposite when it suits me!

I think the DD-20 is far more live user friendly. I love the sounds the SMMwH makes but it's confusing. OP should be all over @BluesyDave's ; DD-20, that's a great deal.

DD-20 is an excellent delay, although only four presets (five if you set the "manual" mode to one of your sounds) might be too few. You'll need an external footswitch to get the most from it- particularly if you use tap tempo.

The Delaylab is very good too- way more presets, good sounds. It's BIG though. It also has a set of "famous song" delay presets that might coincide with your setlist.

Good shout. I don't use mine for delays so I'd almost forgotten they did that.

Probably not capable of doing every last cool thing you can get a dedicated delay to do, but still one of the biggest bargains out there, particularly if you use MIDI.
