Nowt wrong with a bit of proper corned beef. Though you should go Spitfire Tort if you are going to do it properly.

I had a P bass with an anodised pick guard on it and it used to make my fingers feel odd and I just couldn't get on with it.

Maple/white gaurd on a two tone Strat.  Is that natural wear or sympathetic relicing?  Whichever, it looks fab.
    No Darling....I've had that ages.

At the moment, all I would consider buying on any guitar is maple. I used to be rosewood solely. Never got on with ebony on anything

I think Ebony is best overall, but I always prefer playing Rosewood on an SSS Stratocaster and Maple on a HSH Superstrat.

i prefer high gloss varnished maple to unvarnished maple or rosewood. unvarnished maple feels too matt & rosewood too gritty, but it's habit & taste. whatever feels comfortable is the right answer. i like fast & skiddy, so a slim high gloss very slightly rolled & bound neck.
a worn-through varnish probably worst of all as will be scoopy & channelly. but then i know some players who seek that worn thing because it gives them something to push against on bends.
hofner hussie & hayman harpie. what she said...

Not about looks for me, maple can look great on some guitars, I just prefer the feel of rosewood.

Sorry to jump in on this, but how about your preference of maple or rosewood on a:
    - Lake Placid Blue Strat?
    - Candy Apple Red Strat?

From my experience, there's no substantial tonal differences between rosewood and maple, you guys agree or disagree?
