If it's one of the plug in type  (not the older type where you just have a load of loose wires)  . Could it be as simple as the 12v  is the wrong way around ?  They are supposed to be standard but i did this some years back and either the adaptor was wired wrong or the stereos were wired the opposite way around .

This used to be the case with Blaupunkt ISO head units in some V.A.G. cars. Two wires in the biggest block connector were reversed compared to all other manufacturers.

It is difficult to make any further comment without seeing the pin-out diagrams for the Clarion and the Peugeot.
You say, atom bomb. I say, tin of corned beef.

I'd assume that as he's getting a buzz, the head unit is at least powering up. However IIRC that age of Peugeot will not have an ignition feed to the radio, as it'll rely on CAN bus to turn it on/off. Which you'll either need an interface adapter to get a phantom ignition feed, or run an ignition feed from an ignition controlled fuse (piggy back fuse holders are available for this purpose).

Provided the head unit is powering up correctly, then it's likely to be an issue with wiring to the speakers, or a faulty head unit.

Power wrong way round would usually just mean it doesn't come on with ignition but will turn on using power button as you just missing a switched live.  A lot of head units have a bullet connector to switch them but it usually just means constant and switches are wrong way round.  Photos of the wiring and iso connectors etc can be a big help dignosing a problem ;)

Ok, so it powers on, menu and all that jazz come up, it can see a Bluetooth phone, but no sound from speakers ( just hissy buzz)...more investigation required.
