New Voxes

What's Hot
stickyfiddlestickyfiddle Frets: 26987
AC30 S1 - 1x12 combo, single channel (topboost), digital reverb, no trem

Mini SuperBeatle which seems to really just an MV50 that looks like a trad vox

..and a new AC10C1-VS which I can't find anything about on their website but apparently has a better speaker.

Can't say anything there quite grabs me, but what do I know?

yeah, but it's also almost comically small.

This is a 10" speaker and it's absolutely jammed in

Might just be me being dense, but the pricing of that AC30 S1 is confusing me.

It's basically the same as the AC30 C2, but it only has one channel, no spring reverb and one speaker. Surely that would make it cheaper to manufacture and sell? Maybe it'll drop in a few months or something but unless you're specifically looking for those features and an easier time lifting it, I can't understand it.

The Ac30 sounds pretty good ...

This has made me realise, yet again, how much I love the Vox amp tone.

Whilst the new AC30 1x12 is a good idea, I may as well go for an AC15 if I get one.

So this new model is only £60 less than a normal 2x12 full featured AC30?! Makes no sense.

I guess they're thinking of it a bit like when Porsche charge you extra to save weight by taking out the radio and comfortable bits in a 911.. :D

So is the Ampeg Micro VR, but it's actually a giggable bass amp.

If the Mini Super Beatle is 50W, with an efficient speaker it too will be giggable, at modern stage levels. The stock one has a rather small magnet to expect that much from, but something like a G10 Vintage should give it a lot of volume - or even a G10 Gold if you're feeling like spending that much.

I liked the sound on that Andertons demo - much more like what I think of the Vox tone (based on owning a 60s AC30 in the past and currently a 90s AC15).

I noticed that again the new AC30 has only two ECC83s. My AC15 has five - PI, tremolo and reverb take one each, which means two are in the single channel Top Boost preamp. So how can they make a Top Boost channel with two triodes?

    It's only 50w into 4 ohms, the G10 Vintage isn't available as a 4 ohm speaker.

Can anyone explain NuTube? Vox's description - "vacuum fluorescent display technology" is vague and could give the impression it's about cosmetics. If I'm reading it correctly the NuTube only affects the tremolo.

According to the blurb, the amplitude of the tremolo introduces some Nutube distortion.

Good introduction to them here: https://www.rs-online.com/designspark/design-of-a-korg-nutube-amplifier-part-1-tube-basics

And that's the reason I totally ignored the mv50 as well because apart from that they sound great on paper but my cab is 16ohm

A Nutube is basically a very small, very low power and high efficiency valve. It's used just before the power amp to add a valviness to the sound.

That's a good read, even with my very limited understanding. When I read vacuum fluorescent display I was imagining a strip light!

The combo is tiny; weighs less than 20lbs and under 2' tall. They do mention an extension cab for more volume potential. The amp head on its own might be useful.

Very impressed with the sound from that Andertons video posted earlier.

    Must take a listen.
