Last month, it was "...since 1966" and this month it's "...since 1976". All I can say is thank fuck Andy Murray won Wimbledon, so we no longer have to hear "...since Fred Perry." :)

He's Scottish so it's doesn't count.  No Englishman has won the boring tennis tournament since Perry.
Katrina Leskanich was born in Kansas, but she still won Eurovision in 1997-since-Bucks-Fizz. :)

I was 12 in 1976.  The only thing I really remember about that summer is me and my brother going out and charging around the back garden in our underpants on the day it finally started raining.

I probably won't be doing the same thing this summer.

Very kind of you to say so, but it really is for the best.

I'm tempted to do it, only in a pair of shorts and carrying a bottle of shower gel.  May be the only time (...since 2018) we get the chance.

I think we might have been spoiled more than in 1976. This spell of lovely weather started at the beginning of May and has only had several minor blips since. There has been other nice, dry summers since 1976 though, not counting this one of course. This spell is exceptional though.
Way to go yet to beat '76 (BBC News).
Ahh, that must be true if the BBC says it is :)
The UK was hot and dry for weeks. My sister lives on the Welsh/England border and they've had plenty of heavy rain. Even London has had some rain .. it needs to be hot and dry for a lot longer to beat 76 UK-wide. Some places may be worse off.
I know, I was just taking the Piss ;)

It can NEVER be the same as 1976 as for that summer I spent all day riding to keep cool on my brand new Yamaha RD200 electric.... and then there was the leggy, busty Tina riding pillion in her teeny white bikini gripping me like mad...

Bloody Hell, I was expecting a pic of Tina :(

My Kawasaki S3 400  triple was so much cooler than the RD400 or the GT380.

Whilst I'm a fan of the RD200 electric (I always wanted a 400 with K&Ns and Microns), I'm disappointed that the photo contains nothing of the bikini clad Tina.
    Oh so #metoo !!

    I was 2 1/2 in the summer of 76.

I only remember one thing. The water tank in the loft burst in the heat and it rained inside the house.

I was freaked and toddled up to the top of the garden to cry and get out of the way.
