you'll need to be a french speaker (well, a french listener at least) to understand this one, but it's one of those that on certain days had the power to make me completely well up. it's a big song with an immortal message.

basically an old man looking back at his proud and arrogant younger self as if viewed through the wrong end of a telescope. the insight and perspectives only time and experience can endow. to be approaching your journey's end with a full heart and a clear conscience. deep.

Well, the modern world has changed a bit and globalisation & super-states have impinged on and eroded most people's lives in a more subtle way that direct wars and conquest.

The superpowers still go on inventing small self-contained wars & conflicts so they can have a bogey-man, almost similar to bonding by picking on the school swot.

One thing which has changed since the 80s is that we're no longer in a world where two superpowers are pointing enough nukes at each other to destroy all life on the planet, but instead we have some upstarts who need slapping down from time-to-time.
