Overdrive suggestions for stacking with Muffs

zepp76zepp76 Frets: 2534
I'm thinking of getting a nice overdrive to stack with my Muff pedals. The Skreddy Rust Rod doesn't really need boosting but I'd like to give it a go anyway and I'll also be using it with a Vick Audio '73 Rams Head Deluxe which could do with a wee boost.

Do any of you fine people have any recommendations? I think I'm going to cap the budget at £100 so any suggestions around that price point would be great, thank you.

Edit: I do have a Strymon Sunset I could try but it's on my small pedalboard and I'm not keen on separating it but it could be an idea if nothing else takes my fancy.
Tomorrow will be a good day.

I think my soul food stacks quite nicely into my green Russian reissue quite nicely for a bit of boost. Not so good the other way round though. Not sure about your muffs, though if they have less bottom end it might not be quite so good.

  • @zepp76 I have the same pedal (Vick), seems to go well with a Boss Blues driver, just make sure that the gain is all the way down.

  • Anything "transparent" (whatever that means) should do the trick.

Otherwise an EQ pedal is where it's at.

  • I always use a TC spark booster. Stacks into an muff type pedals really well.

Currently boosting a way huge swollen pickle

This; the Soul Food in front is really good.

  • Don't muffs lack a lot of mids? So something with a lot of mids should work?

Yep. A tube screamer sounds great into a big muff

I found a Thorpyfx Muffroom Cloud into a clean boost was fantastic (boost used was the boost side of a Veteran)

Thank you for your replies people, nothing has taken my fancy yet so I might try the Sunset. I wonder what triple stacking will achieve? It could take a fair while trying all the different options that the Sunset gives.

I use a mini spark boost after a Fallout cloud.
    Don't touch that dial.

  • Oh btw, if you want beautiful cacaphony, put a Harmonic Percolator in front.

  • A Klone of some kind is the best I've tried. Within your budget, it'd be the Soul Food or a second hand Tumnus maybe.
