Starter Guitar Book wanted

Moans minor has decided that all his other instruments ain’t gonna cut it and has decided to learn guitar. While I can show him a couple of chords I thought it would be handy for hom to have a decent book to dip into. 

Anyone got anything suitable before i hit Amazon?

Great advice: I’ve slavishly followed some of his vids in the past; didn’t realise he had books out.

I bought three 'beginner' books when I started out back in March. One I used a lot, the other I just use for reference and third is beyond my level (still!)

The one I used the most was the 4 chord songbook.  Once I learnt the chords I then just developed the strum pattern and was 'wowed' when I could actually string together a few basic songs. A good confidence builder and one that I'm sure your lad will enjoy as a quick win to boast to his friends.

Other than that, I think as a young lad it'd be best to all the theory stuff properly and go through the Grades using the RGT books

I think learning songs quickly will get him hooked but learning the theory and doing it properly will provide a solid foundation for the rest of his days.  A bit like loving sport at school but he's still got to do his maths homework when he gets home!
