  • I played this briefly (after the work was completed) a while ago - a really nice player-grade guitar. Steve’s work is exemplary.

Thanks guys - Had it back for a while now but have enjoyed playing it myself for a short time - But I'm a dealer first and a player second, so can't justify keeping everything that is nice

Do have a load of pics of what it was like before hand as well, but crap at posting them on FB - can email them to anyone if required and you can post them on my behalf

To finish it off, it probably needs a touch of @miserneil or @WezV treatment with some skilled 'aged work' around the rear of the headstock and neck finish, to give it more 'authenticity' regarding blending the new in with the old - but a marginal call

The key point was to put some playable life back in it at an affordable price

My Dad had a Cherry Red 345 in the 60's and its headstock got broken in a fight, he then subsequently got it repaired and sold it on and bought the Gretsch that he had/I have now...I can only wonder and dream if this was it - my Dad sadly passed away 10 years ago so I can't get any info.

Well, does A. Yates mean anything to you because a previous owner helpfully scratched their name into the back of the headstock.
That scratched name was done years ago - For whatever reason - I acquired the guitar from his brother, long after A Yates had died - He was quite local to my area - A Yates acquired it sometime in the early 1960's and he and the family stayed with it until about 3 years ago when I acquired it - So I know quite a bit of its previous life/history

  • Occasionally I seriously wish I wasn't left-handed, that guitar looks wonderful and is a credit to all concerned.  If I was right handed it would already be mine.

must be mightily frustrating for you regarding many guitars, in that you can look but not touch/own

Wonderful work all round. It looks superb, and is tickling my fancy. So to speak. I have a couple of my older guitars with @SteveRobinson at the moment, and I'm thinking that that was a wise decision.
    Call me Dave.
