Good Amp Under £300 for metal/heavy rock

Hi,
As title says, I'm looking to buy my first own amp. Don't want one that's too loud (we have a Peavy 80watt and a carlsbro) but loud enough for a bigish gig. I like to use pedals for any effects so onboard wouldn't be something I'm really interested in.

Any help with where to start would be great

You could pick up a used Engl Screamer for around that sort of money. One of the best amps I have played, especially for rock/metal.

You might find an orange dark terror for that money. Only one channel but cleans up pretty good and the filth is great

A new Jet City JCA50H is £285, although I suspect that - with a decent 2x12" or 4x12" with V30s, a JCA22H at £245 would do the job very well (I've gigged with both, and never run out of headroom on either).

It's only single-channel (EDIT: and with no effects loop), which might not be great for rock/metal.

Peavey valvekings are a great metal amp, stick a boss sd1 into the front end and they’re riff machines

Marshall DSL40c   ? Couple on Ebay right now around the £300 mark (I know as I'm tempted myself !)

There's quite a few second hand Laney GH50/100L amps on eBay that easily drift under 300.

I have to admit that if I had my time again I'd be looking at Jet City very closely instead of Mesa.

I love the Mesa but it was a smidge more cash than a JC...

I have a Peavy Classic 30 that is gathering dust (actually it was my son's) had new valves last year balanced by a tech. Good clean channel - takes pedals nicely, and a very useable drive channel. looking for £300.00. If you are interested let me know.
