Princeton Reverb Experiment with OD/Distortion

This morning I experimented with my Boss SD-2 using the red channel/distortion side.
I stumbled upon some absolutely brilliant thick sustaining lead tones if I set the Princeton volume to 10 but had the level on the pedal set very very low and the drive on full.  Is this an okay thing to do? Am I going to wear the tubes out quicker by doing this? I’d imagine that this would be an ideal setting for cutting through in a rehearsal/gig environment or am I being a fool?

It won’t wear the valves out any faster because the distortion is coming from the pedal if you’ve got the level right down.
