Two Boosts/overdrives?

In all reality I'm over thinking this, but I keep switching two pedals around in an 8 pedal set-up. Current chain is Wah > comp> soul food> swollen pickle fuzz> dist> EQ > mod> reverb.

I like using the soul food to change the sound of the fuzz, but then it's also very useful after the fuzz and distortion as a clean boost for solos. I don't like using the EQ as a boost and prefer to use it to shape the sound of whatever dirt pedal is on. Does anyone have two of the same pedal in different places for difference jobs? I could just get a clean boost I suppose as adding any drive on the SF later in the chain doesn't really work.

The other option is to put the compression further down the chain and use that as a solo boost, just with very mild compression on. Anyone use compression like that, or is it just going to shape the tone of any dirt pedal too much?

Thanks

  • Put the clean boost in the send return loop and you'll never look back

I used to use an MXR Graphic for tone shaping and a GE-7 as a booster.
