the 40 watts and the 85 watt job....

Anyone got experience of both? it's the sound and performance of the  deluxe rhythm channel only folks

How do these two rhythm tones square up and is one better suited as a pedal platform over the other?

Thanks guys

A Twin is a glorious thing, but not every drive pedal works that well with it. The Blues Deluxe is less finicky IME.

This. The Twin's clean sound is a huge, deep, effortless thing of beauty, but it can be fizzy and buzzy with harder-sounding drive pedals. There's a way around it, but it's bit more of a faff than the Blues Deluxe, which has a warmer and more midrangy clean sound naturally. It's to do with the way the reverb circuit works in the Twin.

The Twin also weighs substantially more, but I think you probably guessed that - although it's not as unmanageable as you may think, the blackface ones are only about 65lb. They got much heavier through the silverface models in the 1970s.

Yep, the BD will do anything *fairly* well, up to gentle ACDC levels, and plays very nicely with pedals.

The Twin is probably the most brilliantly spanky, strident clean amp ever.  They also sound *amazing* when wound up into overdrive as well. But it's so loud noone has ever heard it with their own ears and survived.

John, what's  your " way around it" tip for taming the fizzy/buzzy?

They're not *that* loud :). Nowhere near a Marshall Super Lead into two 4x12"s... although you probably won't get away with it at most gigs these days - and I agree, they do sound great overdriven.

Plug into the Normal channel and jumper to the Vibrato channel to add a little reverb or tremolo if you want it - with the reverb and intensity turned up further than normal and the treble turned down. The Normal channel doesn't have the treble-pass cap (which is what causes the fizz) in the reverb mixer section, since it has no reverb.

Is there an option to run an extension speaker cab with the deluxe? can't tell from online pics or manual

Yes - the current ones do, although the original 90s ones didn't.
