My aged AKG headphones have died - before I buy a newer version of them what do people on here use?

    DT100's or DT770's for performers.
Ideally DT100's because I can easily replace the cable.

I mix mostly on monitors, but if I have to mix on headphones then I use a combination of B&W P7's and Read Audio IEM's.

AKG K702 for listening / mixing, Beyerdynamic DT250 for tracking (I've had these an unbelievably long time so I've certainly had my moneys worth)

If you can get a pair of Shure SRH1840 within your budget they're superb but that might be tough.

Failing that, Sennheiser HD650 if you prefer a sound that's on the warm / soft side, or if you prefer something slightly scooped and a bit sparkly the AKG K7xx or Audio-Technica ATH-R70x.

I bought a pair of Shure SRH1440s on a good deal from Andertons (around £160, I think). Very, very happy with them. A friend heard them and bought a pair himself (by which time they had gone up a bit). Last time I looked they were nearer £260 but still in your budget.

[edit] Just had a look - currently £219 at Andertons. Still a good price for the sound quality, I think.

AKG K721s for tracking (closed back for more isolation) and K702s (open back, basically 701s with removable cable) for check mixing.

Both are ok from my mixers headphone out, but being pushed by a behringer amp800 headphond amp makes them better.  I want something better in the amp department at some point.

    I have a pair of K701s ... using them as I type.

I popped out and tried a few and opted for a pair of beyerdyamic 990 Pro Studio 250 ohm .. they sound really detailed and spacious ... coiled cable is useful in the studio (no long cable).

Audio Technica ATH-M50x. Sound great. Good value. Removable / interchangeable cable, including a 1.2m straight one, so it's not wandering all over the desk.
    I think, therefore.... I... ummmm........
