Is the goop really necessary at this point?

If he can sell the same thing in a different box at 5x the profit.....I would!

    I agree.

But it is NUTS! You can buy a EHX Soul Food and get 95% there for like £70.

You could buy a Ford Mondeo and do 70mph on a motorway alongside a Bentley

Is spending over $2000 on one really necessary at this point?
I bet RYRA and EHX are worried about this. They might have to reduce their prices to compete.

Bill is an enigma to me, along with Paul of Tim/Timmy fame.

Design a pedal that is popular and moves things on a bit - but never move on yourself - why not make a whole series out of it, keep production in line with demand, design some new stuff.

These boys must be scraping a living - just feels like unfulfilled potential.

They are not businessmen.  They are like a hobbyist who stumbled on a design that went much bigger than they ever envisaged but there was never a plan to make it long term.  They are not Thorpy or Joel Korte where they hire people or collaborate to make other kinds of pedals.

It seems to either go one of two ways, this way, or get bought out by a larger company and the design gets watered down and made cheaper.
I'm pleased he is still working this way, but I don't necessarily need to have to spend $2k on a pedal I bought for $400 10 years ago (and balked at it then).

But - I'd still be playing the same guitar through it into the same amps with the same riffs...

A good pedal can inspire new ideas- that is kinda the point of them for me.
    Otherwise why buy it?

Paul C seems a great dude. has enough work to keep him going and doesn't have high overheads and has no dreams of world supremacy. He is backlogged with orders and he can probably make like 5+ pedals a day  just himself and probably does over $100 profit on each one.
My Trade Feedback Thread is here

Been uploading old tracks I recorded ages ago and hopefully some new noodles here.

  • How on earth does it take him so long to build each unit? He's made them all so must have a good idea of what he's doing.
Seems a real eccentric. Love that part.
If I had talent, I'd be talented.
    Red meat and functional mushrooms.
    Persistent and inconsistent guitar player.
A lefty, hence a fog of permanent frustration

Not enough guitars, pedals, and cricket bats.

He could churn them out and lower the values.

Why not make 1 per week, or even 1 per 2 weeks and earn $2000 a pop for 3 hours work.
Sounds like a plan to me.

Analogman KOT anyone? Worth about £80-100, but due to 'waiting list' sells for more than double that and some.

The tone isn't the same without the goop.

As I understand, he has a close friend who’s a single mother and doesn’t make a lot of money from her job.  Every once in a while, he makes some Centaurs and sells them to help her out with bills.  He doesn’t make any money from it himself.

If I had to spend 2k on a pedal, I'd rather that money went to the guy who designed and built it than someone who paid £300 and then flipped it for 2 grand. Seems far more deserving in my eyes.
It's still a mysteriously ludicrous price, though.
