Impending Delay Shootout - other suggestions welcome

What's Hot
TimmyOTimmyO Frets: 7417
I have inbound a few to try - hopefully one will impress and I’ll doubtless sell the others on again.

they are:

TC Alter Ego - various tape goodness modelled digitally

Boss Waza Delay - analog

Mad Professor Deep Blue Delay - digital but apparently warm sounding

I’m also headed to Andertons on Monday to help someone else spend their money on a guitar but while I’m there what Delay pedals would you recommend trying (not Strymon/Eventide - trying to avoid complex power requirements)

ta!
Red ones are better.

  • I’m shamefully going to recommend the Chase Bliss Thermae that I have for sale in the classifieds. As much analog warmth as you could ever want ;-)

that's interesting - from the video demos I heard (I know it's hard to tell properly) I wondered if I'd find it too dark - so maybe I'll feel the same about those others...

I think that's the sort of thing that I'd use 5% of - my use of delay veers toward the chips n' gravy rather than the cordon bleu

I get that and it’s a completely valid point. I just think in terms of basic delay sounds with a tap tempo it is often overlooked as a great pedal.

Love me some chips n gravy!

You should grab a DD7 to compare to all these too I reckon.

    Bye!

  • The Catalinbread Belle Epoch Deluxe.  Bloody expensive but worth a try while you're at it, it sounds great.  No tap tempo though :(

  • DD-7: as the baseline to judge others by
Way Huge Echo Puss - memory man style tones at a sensible size and budget
Boss RE-20: loads of character, built like a tank
Caroline Kilobyte: pretty unique, sounds phenomenal
EQD Disaster Transport Sr - the dual delays and the parallel/series blend make it really unique

Skreddy Echo is a beautiful sounding pedal, almost too much sometimes, but amazing. The Diamond Memory Lane Jr is maybe the best all rounder I have tried.

Dunlop Echoplex (make sure you get a tap switch to plug into it - expands delays to 4 secs). It's a wonderful analog voiced delay, simple to use and with the ability to make the repeats louder than the source note if you wish. Works really well with bass (which is pretty unusual for analog sound delays ime).

owned one - absolutely loved it. I also had as much money strapped to the bottom of my board powering it all as I did on the top making noises - not doing that again :-)

I had one of those once back in the day - I was a fan, although ultimately the max delay time was a bit too short for me

  • Andertons have the Foxgear Echo Sex Baby, got to be worth a look ( smaller, budget friendly version of the Echosex).
+1 on the Kilobyte, I think for some the perfect halfway house between analogue and digital.

How about the TC Electronic Gauss. Don't know a great deal about it but I'd be happy for you to trial one on my behalf. ;)
