was thinking of a boost type pedal stacked into your fav OD for extra saturation.......any tips on the best way to go about this with regards to boost pedal settings for best results?

Beano boost...turn the knob until the joy starts.

Blue Note here, very flexible does screamer mid push, fat clean, dirty etc, via the EQ and mode switch. Use it into a MIAB, Pharaoh and makes a Black Russian very filthy.

How'd you set the level folks on the boost?

Me, depends cos so many ways to set the controls. One is mid-gain on the miab for crunchy, some level & dirt from the boost to kick it to being filthy, makes louder too. How much level depends on the dirt in the miab and eq mode etc on the boost, just a ears/choice thing.

My advice would be...get a boost pedal, get an od pedal, experiment.

If using an OD to boost I would set the drive very low and the volume as high as needed for amount of saturation required. If using a volume booster just set the volume for the amount of saturation.

I used to use a treble boost into ODs and fuzzes.
Sounded great.

+1 for Treble boosters. Also any Germanium boosters. the MXR Micro Amp is excellent for this. 

Can any of the techy nerds explain why pedals that don’t have eq/tone knobs are better for boosting dirt pedals?

The Accomplished Badger with Ge Gain on half, Clean gain about ten o'clock & volume maxed into The Majestic is a beautiful thing!
