Rock Vocalists

What's Hot
I’ve just watched Corey Taylor (of Slipknot and Stone Sour) do an acoustic set on YouTube. WHAT a voice! He goes from smooth to bellowing effortlessly.
Even MrsLostSon put down her sewing & commented “Who’s singing? He’s really good”
https://youtu.be/uetFO7y8WPA

If nothing else it’s worth skipping to around the 25min mark to hear him do Spongebob Squarepants.
With Chris Cornell, Layne Stanley etc gone, who do you rate as the best rock vocalists out there today*?

*A wisdom will be awarded to the first person to say Chuck Ragan

Watching David Draiman from Disturbed doing Sound of Silence live on Conan is an extraordinary experience. The band's music doesn't really do anything for me but I can listen to him deliver that song over and over again.

Edit...in mobile and it won't share YouTube links for some reason

Yes, he’s good. Especially as he goes so deep. Have you heard the Myles Kennedy duet version? That’s great too.

  • Agree with just about everyone mentioned, plus I can't not add Eddie Vedder.

Layne Staley was mentioned, he was great but I always thought the real magic of the band was him and Jerry Cantrell singing in harmony.  I also like the way Doug Pinnick and Ty Tabor combined on the early King's X albums.

Richie Kotzen is a great singer, I think I like his voice better than his guitar playing.

For the softer rock, and my favourite singer of all time, Steve Perry

Then Richie Kotzen, Geoff Tate, Ian Thornley, Jeff Scott Soto.

Dave Lee Roth certainly had something on those early albums

    That really is a great show @stimpsonslostson ;

Corey, along with Devin Townsend are definitely up there, and agree with @Grumpyrocker ;Anneke van Giersbergen is simply phenomenal.

I always thought Pink could be a great rock singer if she ditched the pop nonsense.

    Laugh, love, live, learn.

  • Myles Kennedy has his naysayers but he is brilliant live, he makes it seem effortless and has a hell of a vocal range.

I'm just a Maserati in a world of Kias.

Well, Dio passed away a while ago, so that's a different interpretation of "out there today".

    Floor Jansen.

She doesn't just do Nightwish...and she's probably one of the most talented and versatile singers out there.

Ah yes, missed that thanks! (The comment, not RJD’s passing)
