HX Stomp Muddy

What's Hot

Apologies in advance if this has been covered and pls do point me to the tread if so but...

I've just purchased this unit and all the presets whether played through my amp or studio monitors sound boomy with next to no highs.

I followed this guys strat patch example (with a strat) and it sounds literally nothing like it.Louds of bottom end no high end even with tome pots wide open. Any ideas pls?

Edit the presets to suit your listening environment.
    Or create your own.

Also, try altering the Global EQ settings.

Thanks for the above. I know I can get in there and mess with the EQ but I'm wondering why the presets sounds unusable from the off. My M9 certainly didn't?

Daft question: is the tone knob down in the guitar?

Mine definitely wasn’t muddy from the offset, apart from when I had it running into the fx loop of my amp. Into the front of my amps it’s been fine. I only mentioned the global EQ as I didn’t know it existed when I first got the Stomp

Not a daft question when it pertains to me! But no, tried different guitars too.smudge_lad said:

Just loads of bottom end. Tone wide open still doesn't bring in enough highs.

Can we swap? Mine seems to have absolutely zero bottom end to it! :(

Sounds like a settings issue. Did u buy it new or used? Might be worth putting it back to factory default if bought used.

Brand new. Maybe I should pop down to my local music shop and see one demo'd. A-B it..

I thought this was going to be about cleaning soil off the knobs

Return to vendor and replace with quality valve amp and pedals. Simples.

The presets aren't great, but for every preset to "sound boomy with next to no highs", there must be some sort of global problem - eg. bad lead(s), or a fault with the unit itself.

I recommend taking it back to where you purchased and getting them to check it out.

    Id try the following;

    1.) Factory reset

    2.) Create a blank preset

3.) Add a reverb, then delay then other blocks to suit

OK so I don't know exactly what caused the issues but it sounds very nice indeed today. I used different guitar cable and created my own patches so don't know if that's it..

Anyway thanks for all the help!

Yes, you could well be right but I would never have anticipated the night and day difference would be down to cable.

A broken or faulty cable often sounds exactly like you've described.
