The pointless bar over the top kinda reminds me of Frank Klepacki's guitar, although Franks doesn't look like it gets in the way of playing at all, and the weird futuristic theme suits the guitar more.

Just like with the Roland G-707 Controller, the bar only gets in the way if you try those hand downwards towards the fingerboard stunts that Vai and Sheehan occasionally do.

Somewhere in the back of my head I have the idea that Roland said that bar was a system to stop any dead points on the neck ( important in terms of even triggering of synth notes I guess). I have no idea if it actually makes any difference in that regard ( or even how that would work, come to think of it).
