I was looking for some reference tones to inspire me as I get used to my new Les Paul goldtop with P90s and came across this clip where Joey Landreth demos the Two Rock Bloomfield Drive with his goldtop.

I think this is the nicest sound with P90s I've heard. Baritone strings in open C. FFS...I'm never going to sound like that. Day ruined.

It is indeed a sweet sound.

Doesn't ruin my day though, I have the ability to find tones that satisfy me!

@RandallFlagg - I had no idea you’d bought a Gold Top Les Paul. You certainly kept that quiet!

I like his guitar playing but not so much his songwriting, a bit too soft my for my taste, plus, if I went there's always a chance that pesky Ariel Posen would turn up stinking of coffee grinds.

I like Joey but I find the tones he’s getting with his Goldtop really quite dull

  • He has such a breathy and nuanced approach to the instrument. It feels like someones feeding my ear drums warm apple pie washed down with some bourbon and coke
