I see they've gone with the 25.5 inch scale on the Starcaster. there was some panic over on the Offsets forum that they would be short scale necks. I rather fancy one, though received wisdom is that they are basically poo. Again discussion on the OSG forum tends to favour an upgrade in performance and construction with these re-issues.

There's something that looks wrong about the Coronados- is it the pickups? Can't wait to try one though. I passed over a 12-string original about 20 years ago in favour of an Electric XII (mainly coz I'd never seen a Coronado before and I wouldn't believe it was a proper Fender!). It was only 350 quid too. Doh!

I like the Coronado - they have a centre block too.

  • I'm not sure if this is a bit of a blag as fender told me they were still in the final stages of R&D and wouldn't be available until the end of the year...

Yes, they've put Filtertrons on them - probably an economy measure to save having to tool up for a pickup that's different from anything else they currently do. Might actually be an upgrade though.

Personally I would have gone with the economy measure of using a standard Strat neck (large headstock) on the Starcaster and not the size 19 slipper one too... never liked the original.

    Cherry Starcaster for me.

Looking forward to that arriving in the UK
The Bigsby was the first successful design of what is now called a whammy bar or tremolo arm, although vibrato is the technically correct term for the musical effect it produces. In standard usage, tremolo is a rapid fluctuation of the volume of a note, while vibrato is a fluctuation in pitch. The origin of this nonstandard usage of the term by electric guitarists is attributed to Leo Fender, who also used the term “vibrato” to refer to what is really a tremolo effect.
