Chord Progressions for First Song

Firstly I am not even sure if this is the right place to post this so mods, if it’s in the wrong place please move accordingly !!

For quite a while now I have been writing various lots of lyrics but seem to be totally lacking in the ability to put them to music.  However, I now particularly want to turn one of these into a proper song and would really appreciate some help with chord progressions that might help me to create the tune.  I am wanting the song to have a reflective, thoughtful  feel to it.  Not sad and gloomy, but trying to convey the emotions of doing something that really is important to you and is an emotional thing to you.  I hope that makes sense...

I am wanting to use simple open chords to make it easy to play but will still sound good.

if anyone can help I would be very grateful indeed!

That rules out D minor then! How about B minor?
If we are not ashamed to think it, we should not be ashamed to say it.

He said not sad and gloomy, so you can’t have the famous Dminor ;)

Most (but not all) of the good songs are written for guys not girls so I am going to try and write some of my own!  =)
