Jet set Willy on the spectrum got me hooked on games, closely followed by the original Elite.

The first couple of Call of Duties set in WW11 were very good, as was the one with the sniper mission in Pirpyat, after that they got very same,
Dead Space - was very creepy - surprised it didn't get a sequel
    Far Cry 3
    Forza Horizon

Ive just given up with Red Dead as it was too big.  Been playing for months and seem to be stuck at 55%.  I like big and open world but there needs to be a balance.

I lost interest in video games in the early 90's, so I've probably forgotten some of my old favourites but maybe these:

Coin-op machines - Outrun, Operation Wolf
    Spectrum - Dizzy (the original)
Amiga - Supercars 2 (in two player mode)
PC - Quake, Unreal Tournament (in multiplayer "deathmatch"), Severance - Blade of Darkness

It did, two of them in fact.

My band - Crimson on Silver  For sale - Blackstar HT-5S

Gear - Guitars, amps, effects and shizz. Edited for Phil_aka_Pip, who is allergic to big long lists.

Duke Nukem 3D multiplayer with my mates over dial up modem, just before MSN messenger and the internet in general took off....that's my most memorable gaming experience. You needed a degree in computer programming just to set everything up in MSDOS, but that made the experience more exciting, because of the effort it took to set everything up, and the fact that online multiplayer wasn't really popular back then, so to a 14 year old it was like being a part of some exclusive club.   B Half Life multiplayer was great as well.

Of all time? Elite (Archimedes version), Unreal Tournament, and Tekken 3.

Current? None, but the 2.0 version of Elite Dangerous from a couple of years back was basically as perfect a rendition of how that game could be as far as I'm concerned. Then they ruined it with Engineers (or, more specifically, the special effects for weapons), and every poor attempt at balancing they've done since then has been to counteract the problems caused by the previous balancing pass, all tracking back to those goddamned special weapon effects.

I'm gutted that I'll never be able to play that game again because it was fun, which is something severely lacking these days.

I loved Kikstart myself (loved to build my own tracks); I massively loved my C64.

    Ken sent me :)

Loved all of the Sierra  and Lucasarts games. Still playing Wolfenstein 3D or Spear of destiny ... "Achtung!

The one game I got totally into was the original StarCraft/ BroodWar games.
And the YouTube comments are spot on for once:  anyone who knows music this will hear in their heads the sound of minerals being mined and "SCV good to go Sir!"
Endless hours playing this.  Not wasted.  Gawd, I've even got StarCraft sounds on my phone -- I'm alerted to texts by the sound of a Spider mine.
    "Job finished."

Spy vs Spy (c64) - hours of hilarity with friends - really different and novel game
Way of the exploding Fist (c64) -
Doom II - This effected my dreams for years, the sounds!
Half Life - Nothing like it at the time, really blew me away.
BF1942 - Ground breaking game at the time for multi player, good good times.
Team Fortress 2 - I still play this from time to time 1718 hours on record (71 days of my life playing)

Chapeau. Spy v Spy (and its 2nd part, on the island) was a majestic work of art. What a game! Underrated. Or unknown, maybe. What a game!

Loads over the past 30 odd years of gaming. I'll try to limit it to one or two per platform I've had.

    Spectrum - Dizzy
    Amiga - Lemmings
NES - Super Mario 3, Mega Man 3
PlayStation - Final Fantasy 7, Resident Evil
    PS2 - GTA 3, Tekken Tag Tournament
GameCube - Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker
    PS3 - Skyrim
    PS4 - Fallout 4, Bloodborne
Switch - Breath of the Wild
    PC - Dark Souls

Also had a Wii, WiiU and various handhelds over the years but I'm struggling to think of a single game on any of them that saw me lose anything like as many hours as any of the above did.
