Flip flops, whisky and a pistol are the three camping essentials.

To hell with the guitar, a good inflatable mattress is one of the most important bits of kit for camping.

How are you going to plug it in?

P.S. if you've got furniture in your tent it's glamping

Most important thing is the address of a decent local B&B for when you come to your senses.

I was camping in the Outer Hebrides the week before last and thought about taking a guitar with a headphone amp. When I mentioned this to my wife, her reaction told me everything I needed to know... I didn't take a guitar and didn't miss it for a minute.

Then.... I was out cycling and took a detour to Dalmore Beach on Lewis, one of the most beautiful places in the UK. There was a guy in a camper van sharing his exceptionally dull blues noodlings with everyone. Really not the soundtrack I was expecting or wanted...

Waterproofs and a dry change of clothes.
I quite like camping, but over the years introduced a few luxuries like a power hookup, camp bed and decent air mattress, a sturdy gazebo beside the tent gives you dry(ish) or shaded cover for cooking, washing up and eating.
Power hookup means a small kettle for boiling water, chargers for phones/games/ipads, reliable lighting (we string a white LED rope light around the gazebo), a small fridge for milk/butter/bacon etc. You can get by without these things and still have fun, but dry clothes are a must.

A decent stove, a good pan and bacon from the nearest decent butcher, surely?

I usually take an old Steinberger Spirit headless guitar on holiday much to the other half’s annoyance.
