Cab IRs and direct monitoring in Cubase?

Hi,
I started using IRs in cubase and being a VST, I cannot listen to them while I record.
they work fine when I hear back what I recorded but I was wondering whether I can hear the whole thing while I record instead of just the raw signal from the amp.
just so I can get the overall feel.
Path is amp to dummy box to sound card. this is obviously for silent recording.
I would be surprised if all who silent-record hear the shitty raw sound while they play and then get the proper IR-enhanced tone only at playback.
On the other hand, if a VST plugin is loaded during recording there's latency..
Any tips? I am using LeCab for the IRs

Not used IRs but latency will, like taxes, always be with you.

Most important is that you are using ASIO drivers. Next, what is the AI/Sound card? Some are vastly better than others, mainly due to better drivers.

A good last comes the speed of the PC but in fact anything good enough to run Win 7 should be fast enough OR can be made so. Have you set the PC up for music recording optimizations?

    Hi Dave,

    thanks for your input.

PC is a 4-core, 6GB one. Haven't done any optimization for home rec.
Card is am-audio fast track and I'm using its asio instead of asio4all etc.

    Thanks,
    T

Run this for 20 minutes or so.

It should then tell you the capabilities of your computer.

Things that screw low latency are. On Board Sound Cards, Windows sounds, bleeps and bloops, Wireless modems.

    Dave.

Will do that although I think I sorted it.

I had to configure my vst output properly and then I dialed the latency down to 5ms which is the most my card can give me.
