Idea: Overdrive world cup

I was idly musing while in the garden that it would be quite fun to do an overdrive world cup event.

I haven't fully thought it through but something like 8 forum members bring 16 drive pedals (2 each) to a place where they can make a lot of noise and then it's a tournament format to decide which pedal gets through each round leading to a final showdown.

Anyone think that would be cool?

Only if you can assign each pedal a country name as well. E.G. the Boss Super Overdrive is England cause it's been around forever, isn't really flash but gets the job done in its way, will never come first but on a good day with the right combination will make a semi-respectable showing.

And won't ever reach the final...

Can we get pedals manufactured in 16 different 'footballing nations'?

What a shame China aren't much good at football....

And I'm wracking my brains to think of any Uruguayan manufacturers.

It would be a world cup in which Canada would win without conceding a goal

Doing it by nation is a pretty cool idea. I think it would have to go by the country it was designed in and have to be an original design (I don't think doing China represented by Mooer is really worthwhile)

Hmm so far I can think of pedals for:

England - Marshall, Blackstar, Rothwell, Mayer, Boo
    US - Loads
    Japan - Boss, Ibanez
Canada - Empress, Diamond, Dr Scientist
Denmark - T-Rex, TC Electronic, Karl Martin
    Australia - MI Audio
    New Zealand - Crowther
    Finland - Mad Professor
    Sweden - BJFE, EBS
    France - Jacques
Germany - Hughes and Kettner, Palmer, Okko

Not quite enough, but I'm sure you chaps could help me.

But if it does we'll never hear the end of it.

Do they make pedals in Iran?

Holy moley. I see they've given up exporting beef and being gauchos. Now they're all making pedals.

Great idea, i thought of a slight alternative idea, say 16 pedals and 16 forumites each randomly assigned a pedal out of a hat. Then they play eaxh other in a world cup style final.

forumite 1 vs 2 select a youtube vid that shows their assigned pedal at its best, people vote on favourite video of the two, winner goes to round 2, winner chooses a new vid each round. same for 3 vs 4, 5 vs 6 etc.

Jim Dunlop was a Scottish Immigrant so under todays silly rules may qualify.  :D

Rather like we never even came close to, qualifying for the World Cup that is. So maybe only the early qualifying rounds.
