What strings on my new geetar.

I have just bought myself a new acoustic and need to know what kinda strings I should be having on it.

I guess you'll need some more detail to give an answer?  Well......

It's a Takamine electro acoustic.  G-Series.  One of the slimline things.  I just imported it from the US - as I couldn't find any in the UK.  I'm a bass player really, but I sing 1/4 of the songs in our pub band sets and I'd like to get a bit of singing practice in at open mic nights ...... accompanying myself on acoustic.  When I do play electric, I play Tele's exclusively!

I'm not the greatest of 6-string players, so it will be limited to plectrum-wielding strumming along rather than any lead or finger picking of any kind.

It will be plugged in but I'd also like to be able to have a nice "brang" when unplugged.  I suppose the slimline body compromises the acoustic sound somewhat, but you'd be surprised how good the bass end is ...... and its slimline body and nice neck make it feel like your playing an electric.

Anyway, I have no idea about acoustic strings - so some advice would be good.

If so if bought new it had Daddario EXPs, 12-53.

Strings:

D'Addario® EXP 16 Coated Phosphor Bronze (.012-.053 Gauges)

They are coated strings, which in theory means they last longer and hold their tone longer.  If you like them then just buy the same again.  If you like the feel of them but want something brigher then Elixir Nano phosphor bronze are pretty bright coated strings in my experience.

I've always been a big big fan of the Martin SP 11's. 80/20 set. Have been using them for the last 5 years or so. Play nice, feel nice and they last a reasonable amount of time before dulling off.

But, as it always is, it's probably a case of trying different sets till you settle on the set you like.

For what you want to play I would go for D'Addario Phosphor Bronze 12s on that, the EJ16 set. They are as close as you'll get to an industry standard acoustic string - extremely consistent, sound great, last reasonably well.

If you don't get on with them you will then have a better idea of what you would prefer.
