is this PRS overpriced

What's Hot
Looking at getting a DGT but come across this 408 which i also like the look off.

Looking at getting something to compliment my PRS singlecut

it looks nice and has a nice top 10 finish but seller says that there are 2 marks on it. seems to priced a bit high.

seller will however take my ibanez jem at asking price of £690 against it

    I would say so.

not even tried that hard, this is only £236 more

If I were buying one new, I would go for this or something

It'll come to just under £2k, even after tax and duties.  I bought my last PRS from them, it was $2049, shipping was $75, and total I think it came to a little over £1500 after tax.

If I were selling it would be asking £1600 with a view to getting a fair price but also making sure I sold it.

It's a little pricey but tbh I'd be really hard pressed to turn down @Prudd 's DGT in the classifieds at £1350! If it's an '08 model as he says, then it'll be a nitro-finished model from the first run of them too which are reasonably rare over here and should hold it's value.

That said, a 408 would be more removed tonally from your SC.

If you are looking at the 408 then you might as well check out the Brent Mason, same pick up but with a single coil in the middle.  You can get these under £2k new everywhere.

The Brent Mason is an exceptional guitar. Very 'Fender' in flavour but massively more versatile. The one I played had the best feeling maple neck I have ever played - like you might imagine a great '50s Tele would feel, but with bigger frets and a flatter radius.

If I didn't already have a Strat, I would have bought one - I really could not justify having both.

Agreed - though the white with maple neck one I played was more attractive than some other finishes I've seen. Still a brilliant 'player's' guitar, for those who don't want typical PRS 'bling'.

I don't think prs are any worse than gibson.

At least with PRS if you pay good money you get a properly put together and finished guitar.  Maybe if it says Gibson on top you can overlook all of the flaws. The 408's are pretty good, very versatile.  That one does look a little pricey though for a used one.

I agree...don't get me wrong, I like PRS and I own an SC-250, great guitar! But I do think they could be cheaper...

They are not that bad if you live in the states, can get a McCarty with BRW fretboard for under $2k easy for example.

    It's double that here.

I've sold 3. A McCarty, a custom 22 and a custom 24 I bought in a fit of madness because it was cheap. They were all bought secondhand and sold for roughly the same amount I paid for them.

I'm not going to say they're easier to sell than a gibson as id be lying but if they're sensibly priced, not a weird colour or unpopular model they'll sell.

To echo points made above the one problem I do have us the price difference between here and the states, up to £1000 on some models. I will never buy a new prs in the uk. The only prs I bought brand new is my ce and that came direct from the factory.
