I've been asked to learn 'devil went down to Georgia' for next week. I've only heard it a couple of times so don't really know the song that well, better give it a listen me thinks.

I think I'd struggle to learn that for next year, never mind next week!
Having trouble posting images here?  This might help.

"Moonlight Serenade", which is a rarity as I don't often learn other people's songs.

I'm trying to finish writing "Vile Bodies" which is mainly doing the rest of the lyrics, and I need to work on the new one, which is only a couple of riffs at the minute.

I'm also trying to figure out Queensryche "The Hands", as per the Song analysis thread, but haven't got too far with that one yet....Mostly because I'm really struggling with it

  • Our singer's suggested 'Paradise City'...so I'm seeing what I can remember from when I tried to play it aged 15.

My new Micro Chorus is sounding great for the intro of course!

(I'm just not quite sure how he's going to sing it though)

  • Yellow by Coldplay for a first dance...but the 2012 live version with piano only for a verse and chorus. Not played keys for ages. Eek...

I also promised myself I'd start learning some full guitar parts from songs that would stretch my playing and expand my repertoire of (stolen) licks...but haven't got round to it. When I do, first up is Led Zeppelin' s Since I've Been Loving You

Just had a listen =)) Fck that, reckon I could manage the intro if I cheated and didn't pick it all but noway the solo, not that version anyway. Are there any covers of it that aren't breakneck shred speed?

for a new band meet up / audition ...

Journey - Don't Stop Believing (never really liked this song ... the guitar part is okay ... trickly fast repeater lick at the start ... pretty much the same progression etc as Another Girl Another Planet ... now there's a thought for a segue!)

Fleetwood Mac - Dreams (any tips on the fade in / out fx he gets on that one for some of those little melodic fills?)

The Cult - She Sells Sanctuary

City Nights has some really hard wide spaced hammered arps - good luck! I've got to learn 7 more rock songs and solos for Jonno :)

Dream Theater - Scenes from a Memory

It's a concept album, so I'm attempting to learn the whole lot for sh*ts and giggles. Proving to be my everest, I don't think I'll ever get up to full speed on some of the licks :(

  • I did start on I Fought the Law But the Law Won but the Clash version has about 4 guitar lines so it sounds a bit pathetic on the solo parts when I do it. They are composed little bits so I can't do my usual make a bluesy noise with some double stop bends. So I either need to find a way to do them at least as double stops or just invest in a fuzz pedal or something!
