Fender CS '51 nocaster pickups

Total electonics noob question!

So, I decided to Mod my MIM Tele with some better picups, was a little supprised to find the included wiring diagram was only for wiring up so that the tone becomes a blend - I am not sure I want this, so I assume that if I just swap the wires like for like , I would be able to keep the normal Tele setup?

Would I be missing a huge trick by not setting up as per the diagram?
