This isn't just relevant to vocals. I find the message quite a decent one.

  • Very good, though I admit to skipping in order to view the summary points!
    I spent such a long time practising and am now trying to just get in a band, any band, to move on and improve in general.

    Having fought my aversion to the tutor/presenter, I have to say that was a quality quarter-hour therapy session. Thanks for posting, Drew.

    @thomasross20 I've found that so much stuff that one thinks matters most when practising is the least important stuff when onstage.

  • How do you do the @DLM/username thing - manually?

    Thankfully I've played live a few times, just not in the last few years and not often. I do admit to doing a lot of technical practise but I try to spend a lot of time on timing, getting things by ear, writing stuff and making sure I know the fretboard inside and out. Likely I should learn more about gear... What tips do you have - what other things should I be focusing on?

    @thomasross20 yeah, manually.

    Should be another thread, really, but: Stagecraft. Rocking out and looking like you're having a good time whilst somehow still playing well enough.

  • Clearly something I've yet to even attempt properly lol... It's something I mentioned in the last "band" I tried to form - got to have the stage presence! But I think I'm bad for standing like a tree rooted to the ground whilst looking at the fretboard..

    I don't need no steenking whiny American to tell me I am a fail, I am all to aware. OH!

    Nah reasonably interesting and vox is the one area where a poor voice does stick out a bit, guitars and such not so much and I agree with @DLM part show part go.

    Seeking perfection is the way to madness and in most things as perfection is so debatable and subjective that striving towards your best is best.

    Nothing wrong with chasing as near as perfection as you can get as long as it doesn't get in the way of the rest of it.

  • What a failure of my alone time.  I did not find that guy sexually arousing in the slightest.

    Yep, completely agree with that.

    I'm going to get all fancy and quote Voltare: "Perfect is the enemy of good"

    If you are fixated on perfection you achieve nothing.
