Pedaltrain Info and Dual Lock

After years of getting by with homemade plywood pedalboards, I've finally bitten the bullet and ordered a Pedaltrain Jr. Despite me carefully wiring up my own boards with custom length George L's and screwing pedals down with bike links, I've come to the conclusion that it is a royal PITA to swap stuff out. I drill holes big enough to fit the cables through, but not the jacks. Looks neat as you like but changing pedals around is not a 5 min job. Hence the incoming Pedaltrain..

However, I'm thinking of going with 3m Dual Lock from the outset for attaching pedals to the board but cannot for the life of me find any suppliers of the 50mm/ 2' wide Dual Lock in the UK - anyone have any ideas? For those of you using Dual Lock, which type are you using and do you just lay two strips of the 25mm next to each other along the bars on the Pedaltrain?

When I bought my PT2 it came with some velcro. It is strong stuff, not sure what it is. Assuming you've ordered new you might well get some anyway.

In my experience, the stuff that comes with PT boards is useless.

I've used the black "heavy duty" velcro for years without any problem. If it struggles to fix to the bottom of say a boss pedal, a dab of superglue sorts it. I buy a box of the stuff from Hobbycraft or John Lewis

Really? I can pick my board up by my volume pedal, in fairness there is a strip running the entire length. I wonder if they've changed suppliers at some point.

Personally I also think there is a point where extra strength is a downside, especially if you change positions often. None of my pedals have ever come unstuck of their own accord over 2 years of regular transportation. I have a hard case though which means they never get knocked about.

I use dual lock on my pedals, which is attached (i think) to 'normal' velcro on my pedal train. Super super strong, and in fact you then have difficulty removing them from the board !

I fix masking tape on my pedals, and then add dual lock.

I now use a 'boutique pedal removal device' - see below (!!!!!). It's one of my most valuable tools....

Thanks for the replies so far.

I know that the Pedaltrain's come with Velcro but when I've used Velcro before, the pedals can still move about and the soft (loop) side picks up all sorts of dirt and gets really fuzzy after a while. Whilst the Dual Lock looks as though it'd be better, it's 'kin expensive and seemingly only available in 25mm widths here in the UK.

Looks like I might have to bite the bullet and do two strips of 25mm side by side across each bar (with small bits on the pedals) unless anyone can recommend an industrial grade Velcro that performs as well as Dual Lock.

The velcro that came with my Pedaltrain is fine.

Surely if dual lock is so super strong, 1 strip of 25mm should be sufficient for any pedal - so no need to double it up.

For me, it's usually the glue that sticks the velcro to the back of the pedal that isn't strong enough or doesn't stick to the back of the pedal.

I use heavy duty Velcro. It holds 7kg per 2cm by 2cm. I've used it on my pedalboard for years. I put the soft side on the pedals ( so they don't skit around when used alone on hard floors). It sticks better than anything else I've used. And when you pull it off the pedals it leaves no residue..... That shop Clas Olson do their own brand version of Dual Lock for a fiver.

A fifteen quid spend should sort you. I too have a Jnr & it's been fine

Old thread resurrection.  

I've just gone for Dual-lock on my board and cannot get the adhesive to stick to some of the pedals, specifically the rubber bases of Behringer pedals.  Any of you guys got any tips?  I went for the super-strength version of the dual-lock too...

Take the rubber off....or back it with the brown parcel packing tape then stick your velcro or dual lock onto that..thats what I do on mine with the velcro.
