Musical Gear Insurance information

What's Hot

a current thread in the guitar section around gigging expensive guitars and my insurance being up for a renew next month as made me think.

I always insure my gear on a separate insurance policy than my home insurance and I've been using Allienz up until now, which I got as a recommendation.

What other specialist musical equipment insurance companies out there that do a fair deal but more importantly take a fair and realistic approach to problems eg: guitar robbed at gig, not looking for a loophole to not pay out.

Allianz seems to be the main one but I got quoted £15 a month or something, which I thought was a whack (surely there must be cheaper). Still to insure, got to get round to it!! Shocking gear stoen at a gig isn't covered. Only seems to be home and unattended vehicle cover?

£180 a year from Allianz !!! that's a much better deal than they are doing me, I think mine is around £280 a year (I need to check as it's time to renew) but then the amount I insure and the on paper no quibble terms seem to make it quite reasonable, but I am concerned that the no quibble would be high quibble if I ever use it.

  • I'm around 250 a year for around 10k insured. Wish I could insure only what I take to gigs, which is about a third of the total but there you go.

I have £10,000 of cover with Endsleigh's 'Musical Instrument Insurance'. It's mostly studio gear, guitar equipment, DJ gear.
£160 a year and it includes all my stuff at home plus named items to be insured from theft from a locked vehicle, accidental damage at a gig. Covers me to leave items at a venue overnight (with conditions).

I'm more than happy with it. I know a guy that has claimed twice from Endsleigh and both times they paid up quickly with no quibble.

Allianz is good, but not really much use for gasaholics - the bigger collection - the worse it gets .....

    Will check Endsleigh out ....
Imagine something sharp and witty here ......

  • Just went with Allianz. Initially 2 PRS up to £5.5k or so for £14 a month, no personal liability claims (PLC).
Goes to £17 a month if adding PLC. Will add more gear later... but when I do, it will be £20 a month, or £240 a year.
Christ, that's my savings interest for the year gone, then..!
Never would have bothered with this before, but given I've some decent instruments for once...
    Bummer!

I get the feeling that in most typical situations (eg left all my gear out onstage and went over the road for a kebab) they won't pay out?

  • I sent Allianz an e-mailto ask about this.

    Check the small print...

It's all in the T's and C's, check you're getting the same cover.

    Cheers,
    Al.

  • Will definitely be checking the T's and C's...
That's £190 difference! Not had time to do so yet but plan on it...

  • Yet to do this...
But I did send Alianz an e-mail some time ago and they've STILL not replied so not impressed with that,

  • Allianz is now cancelled (fairly easy to do and no cost incurred) - the price was excessive IMO. Going to check out New Moon.

ok - I need to reboot this thread, as times move on, I'm now hitting the website limit for Allianz quoting and have to pickup the phone to get a custom quote, and the bill per year is a LOT of money, so I think I need to re-evaluate options.

Has the world moved on in terms of good deals / services on musical instruments ?

Yes, but that's not what happened is it? Nudge,Nudge,Wink,Wink. You accidentally "Lost" the item in question didn't you? Say No More, Say No More.

Of course, it goes without saying that I would never condone Insurance Fraud!

I’m with Allianz. £340 for the year for £17k of gear. I’m about to find out how smooth the claims process is though. I really hope there’s no ultra fine print. ;-(

I play guitar and take photos of stuff. I also like beans on toast.

I've been with LV for a long time now.  The premium is pretty much the same each year (unlike others that hike it substantially after you've been with them for a while) and all my gear is itemised under my combined House & Contents policy (with no limitations - in or away from the home).  Been very pleased with the deal.

I wouldn’t want to manipulate anything. I’d rather say what happened and own up to any mistakes I’ve made. Rather that and hope all is good than something come back and bite me.

  • I've been with Allianz for a few years and keep getting reminders to update the value of my stuff.  I've got as far as writing down serial numbers and should really get my finger out of my arse.
