About a month ago I took a notion for a new guitar, I toyed with the idea of a Yamaha SG, and then a Firebird. But as I have a Les Paul and Strat and an SG it seemed like doubling up a bit... So I wanted something, well, different. And I ended up with this... (why I hear you ask)
Because I was inspired by this...
So after a bit of this...
I ended up with this...
Complete with a set of scrapyard dogs Oil City Pickups thanks to Ash @TheGuitarWeasel with clear bobbins (my nod to the SG Zoot)
I did a little blog on it to remind we what not to do if I ever do it again. It's not perfect, but for a first time I'm pretty happy. And those pickups sound nice!
Thanks to those who answered some questions along the way, and for the forum in general... it was handy.

Thats fantastic - really great job. I'd love an old BC Rich, but they seldom come up and if so for quite a price, I'm pretty tempted to try something similar myself having seen this. Love the finish - looks lovely, and the clear bobbins are a real touch of class. Great stuff!

Not my kind of guitar at all - but I have to admit I like that all the same. Headstock, that cool brass hardware, the chicken-head knobs, those cool clear bobbin Oil City pups, plus that nice danish oil finish - it's all working very well, and nicely judged choices. It's pointy, but it's tasteful! Very nice indeed, and cheers for the pics and blog link. :)

  • Niiiiiice!

I like those old natural finish BC Rich guitars with a billion knobs, they remind of my old "Guitar Electronics for Musicians" book. What I'm trying to say is, put more knobs and switches on it. Like another ten.
I'm just a Maserati in a world of Kias.

  • Lovely job - nothing like a natural finish.

    Thanks all.

@bluechargeboy I was pushing my skills getting those knobs to work and push/pull! :)

    Nice job!

I know they're mad but I have always lusted after an old Bich 10. It has to have the old 'R' icon and not the BC Rich logo though.
    This kinda thang:

@BloodEagle  - go for it, I was a bit lucky that a trans finish one came up so the wood underneath was pretty nice and not made up of 25 bits! It was great fun (after the dusty bits) and sourcing the parts was great, I don't have the skill, tools (or space) to build a guitar so this was the next best thing.
