Songs with the most repeated riff

We may be bringing Bowie's "Rebel Rebel" back into the set (for political rather than musical reasons*).

Whilst playing it I've often wondered how many times that f*cking riff goes around but I've never managed the attention span required.

Well, today I was arsed to count.

Our versions of 54-46 varied in length but it's basically a short riff over and over, or two chords over and over if you play them.

I heard a Mark King interview on Radio 2 last week.
I'm not a big Level 42 fan.
But he seemed a good guy.
Speaking of one song he mentioned that a fanatic fan had noticed they sing a chorus (or refrain, can't recall which) 42 times.
Coincidence apparently though.

playing bass the one that did my head in was Monkey Man, if the band leader decided to extend it (and he often did) I could be playing it for way too long

occasionally my mind would wander and I'd forget how it went for a couple of bars

I'll chip in with Seven Nation Army, i reckon at least 16 per verse, three verses, i think one of the choruses is twice as long so a few more

La Grange ZZ Top, 8 times for each of the 4 verses, interspersed with an indeterminate number of "How how how"s and "a-Hmm hmm hmm hmm"s, plus solos on top.

The first one I thought of was Muddy Waters - Mannish Boy.

But only 84 repeats (I think!).

Neil Young's 'Be The Rain' goes round the same four chords for over nine minutes, but the progression is quite slow so it doesn't reach 124 times either... no more than 66 I think, and there are bits where the guitar goes to a solo, although the bass carries on with the riff.

I think Shellac have to have a few contenders. I was lucky enough to see them last year and it was one of the best gigs I've ever been to - three guys locked in tighter than a nun's chuff.
